Midsummer Night’s Dream

Created in the 1590s during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I, a period marked by political stability, rapid capitalist development, and the flourishing of the English Renaissance and humanist movements. The rediscovery of ancient Greek and Roman manuscripts and artworks revealed a fresh new world to a previously constrained Europe. The harmonious vision of humans, deities, and nature portrayed in classical texts, along with their emphasis on pursuing earthly happiness, ignited a powerful desire among people long suppressed by the Church to break free from medieval spiritual shackles and dismantle all rigid dogmas. The Renaissance awakened awareness of individual existence, gradually replacing divine rule with values centered on human rights, humanity, and humanitarianism.
